Language Development for teachers (Explorations into Contemporary English Usage and Current Affairs)

 

Objectives:

- To provide language development and language awareness at an appropriate level for your personal needs. 

- To develop an understanding of the discourse and genre of appropriate and effective spoken communication

- To develop an understanding of the varied roles of English within an English speaking culture. 

- To develop spontaneous use of English terms of listening, speaking, reading and writing. 

- To improve your English language proficiency. 

- To increase linguistic awareness and confidence in using the appropriate variety of English. 

- To maximise contact with contemporary authentic English, both spoken and written. 

- To encourage you to compare English as traditionally taught with English as it is currently spoken. 

- To focus on oral communication

- To focus on the accuracy of your own use of English

- To focus on accuracy, fluency , intonation and pronunciation in relation to listening and speaking. 

- To increase confidence in using English, especially when in contact with native speakers.

- To investigate aspects of contemporary English usage. 

- To enhance understanding of the cultural aspects of the English langauge and trends in English language development. 

Extended School Teaching Practicum 

Objectives:

- To develop an understanding of English-medium education as well as observing a different education system in action, through classroom observation, content lesson planning, teaching practice in local schools, and other related school and classroom activities. 

- To reflect explicitly on the similarities and differences in educational contexts and practices between the UK and Madrid and to compare and contrast features of the systems. 

- To teach content lessons on the British National Curriclum to British school and British Secondary school students. 

- To extend your competence as a classroom practitioner and as an educator. 

English Language Skills for Professional Communication Purposes- Content Teaching in Bilingual Schools. 

Objectives:

- To enable you to feel confident when teaching content subjects using English.

- To enable you to be confident in giving pupils feedback in English. 

- To provide language development and langauge awareness at an appropriate level for your professional needs. 

- To develop confidence in classroom decision making in English. 

- To develop your communication skills to achieve the above. 

 

Lesson Planning for Content Teachers

Objectives:

- To develop lesson planning and practical skills to enable you to teach content lessons in English to British school children. 

- To demonstrate competence in your use of English so that you are effective when teaching students in British schools. 

- To demostrate confidence in classroom decision making and classroom management in English.
